"The biggest challenge that brought me to Care Connect was that I knew there were safety issues and other concerns that had been going on with my parents for a while -- like taking medication, falling, a kitchen fire, finances, and their legal documentation.

"But both of my parents were not open to any help from an elder care professional. And, it was an emotionally charged situation with family dynamics, so I kind of felt paralyzed and needed help getting started and knowing where to go.

"When I first met with Christina Drumm-Boyd of Care Connect, I felt she was very professional, knowledgeable and competent about care for seniors and long term care because she had a perspective from both sides -- as a professional working in the elder care environment, and also from things she had gone through with her own family. I felt in that sense that she gave me a more objective perspective from both sides and also gave a lot more caring and concern. Because of all of that, she earned my trust which was very important at that stage and allowed me to go forward.

"One of the most helpful things Care Connect did was on the initial visit when they gave use some wording – phraseology – to help us address immediately getting the keys from my stepfather for not driving because the doctor told him he couldn’t drive but he was anyway. Christina also gave me some very effective phraseology to help me break through some major barriers with the family dynamics and all the emotions involved with loved ones. Once that was accomplished Care Connect worked quickly to assess legal documents in our finances so we knew what we had and what we didn’t have and where we could go from there. To my great relief, my parents were in a safe environment in a very short amount of time.

"I continue to use Care Connect’s elder care services for ongoing care. Christina and her staff continue to assess the assisted living where my parents are staying to make sure they’re getting the care they should be getting. And, they also present me with further things that our family may need to do.

"Care Connect was also there for us when my parents on separate occasions wound up in the emergency room and needed rehab. Care Connect helped us find different rehab facilities to deal with different situations. I’m extremely grateful because I feel like I have strong back up support because sometimes facilities don’t hear things through me as well as they do though another professional.

"And, from watching the Care Connect professionals, I’ve been able to speak with a more powerful voice as I’ve learned how they handle situations.

"I feel Care Connect’s involvement with my parents has made a tremendous difference in the quality of care they’ve gotten along the way.

"When a family cares for elderly parents, I think there are a lot of emotional dynamics that people don’t know how to deal with. And they don’t know the resources available and who is trustworthy. That makes it hard to know where to begin and in what direction to go.
